Esmé brings extensive experience of early years education through her previous work as a teacher and school adviser in inner London and her current role as a teacher educator supporting beginning and experienced teachers on teacher education, Masters and PhD programmes at UCL Institute of Education. Her research interests have been concerned with young children’s investigations and ways of explaining in science, developing research approaches sensitive to the capabilities of young children and examining connections between informal and formal learning experiences. She has recently been involved as the Scientific Representative for the Institute of Education in a 30 month EU FP7 project Creative Little Scientists: Enabling Creativity through Science and Mathematics in Preschool and First Years of Primary Education http://www.creative-littlescientists.eu that brought together a consortium of partners across nine EU countries. Funding for a further three years has been obtained through the Erasmus + programme to build on findings from the CLS project to develop, validate and disseminate teacher education materials in collaboration with schools http://www.ceys-project.eu
