Judy brings a great deal of experience in educational research, informal science education, and early learning to the project. She has served as a PI on more than 30 competitive, federally funded grant awards, both at the Museum and previously as a principal investigator at the Far West Laboratory for Educational Research and Development in San Francisco. As Senior VP of Education at Frost Science, she played a lead role in bringing the resources of the informal science education community to the educational reform movement, and has won numerous awards for the development and implementation of innovative science enrichment programming for girls, underserved minority children and youth, including the coveted Presidential Award For Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM), the AAUW Eleanor Roosevelt Fund Award and the 2014 Association for Science and Technology Centers Leading Edge Award for Exceptional Leadership. Prior to joining the Museum, Dr. Brown’s career also includes substantial involvement in early learning. The Early Childhood Hands-On Science Efficacy Study, a 90-site randomized controlled trial of a Museum-developed intervention for teachers of low-income preschool children ages 3-5 was a significant achievement. The program is currently being replicated by several museums in the United States and abroad.
